About this race

About Tokyo Marathon 2027

The Tokyo Marathon takes place on Sunday 7 March 2027. The general lottery and payment period had already concluded at our last check, so this page is for runners who already hold an entry.

Tokyo is one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, and for many runners it is a once-in-a-career start. Recent editions started at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and finished near Tokyo Station, a point-to-point route with a small net descent and a reputation for fast times. The early downhill kilometers make a disciplined start important.

For runners from the Americas, the biggest variables are travel ones: a long-haul flight, a large time difference, a start and finish in different parts of the city, and a very full race week. Visterra Runs plans those around your entry so you arrive ready to race.

Race week in Tokyo: what to plan for

Arrive early enough to adjust

Our recommendation is to arrive several days before race day to adjust to the time difference. We help you balance that with your schedule.

Start and finish are apart

With a point-to-point course, where you stay affects both race morning and your return after the finish. We weigh both before you book.

Expo timing

Bib pickup for major marathons is usually required in person before race day. We fit it into your arrival plan. Confirm the official requirements in your participant guide.
